iGaming.com buys Spanish sports outlet Relevo

igaming.com

iGaming.com Group has acquired Spanish sports publication Relevo, taking control of the brand, Relevo.com domain, archive, and associated social media accounts. The outlet resumed publishing on Aug. 10 after Vocento shut down the original operation in 2025, with its new owner introducing a different editorial and business structure.

Relevo will remain primarily a sports publication, with football and basketball at the center of its coverage alongside cycling, motorsport, and major international events. All articles are free, with no display advertising or paywall, and the 2026-27 LaLiga season is its first major editorial cycle since returning.

Sports betting content will provide part of Relevo’s revenue under iGaming.com. The publication may include affiliate links in betting articles, but only for operators licensed by Spain’s Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling. Relevo said those commercial relationships will be disclosed and will not affect editorial ratings or recommendations.

iGaming.com CEO Andreas Ditsche said Spain is an important long-term market for the company, which already operates betting and gambling information and comparison sites across multiple regulated markets. Relevo adds a general sports publication with an existing Spanish audience to a portfolio otherwise heavily focused on betting and iGaming affiliate media.

Relevo editor-in-chief Giannina Mundaca Castillo said the previous publication averaged 5.5 million monthly readers and built more than 2.6 million followers across social media. The relaunched site is backed by iGaming.com’s technology, data, and operational resources, while editorial decisions remain with Relevo’s newsroom.

Vocento launched Relevo in 2022 and announced its closure in March 2025 after attempts to find another way to continue the publication, including bringing in new shareholders, failed. Relevo employed more than 70 people at the time and recorded a negative EBITDA of €4.9 million in 2024 despite increasing its annual revenue from €2.2 million to €2.9 million.

Vocento CEO Manuel Mirat said in March 2026 that the company had invested close to €18 million in Relevo and that the publication had accumulated an €18 million deficit. Keeping it open was costing Vocento more than €4 million per year, with Mirat pointing to its large cost structure and reliance on advertising in a competitive sports media market.

The relaunched Relevo is using a different revenue model instead of relying on display advertising. Betting affiliate content will help finance the free publication, while iGaming.com has said the new operation uses a different structure from the Vocento-era project. Spanish media reports have also characterized the relaunched newsroom as significantly leaner than its predecessor.

The purchase price has not been disclosed by iGaming.com. PRNoticias reported shortly before the relaunch that Vocento had sold the Relevo domain to a German group for around €400,000, while Merca2 later identified the buyer as iGaming.com and reported the same figure. iGaming.com’s confirmed acquisition covers the Relevo brand, domain, archive, and social media accounts, so the reported €400,000 figure has not been confirmed as the price for the full package.

Vocento retains no ownership in Relevo and has no editorial or commercial role in the relaunched publication. Relevo is now published by iGaming.com Group GmbH, with the company trying to make the sports brand financially sustainable through a smaller operation and betting-affiliate revenue after its previous advertising-led model produced years of losses.
